The idea of economic aid and development is to win the hearts and minds of our enemies more effectively than through dependence on military solutions. It sounds good but the reality in Afghanistan is far different from the ideal. Today’s guest is journalist and author Douglas Wissing, whose new book is “Funding the Enemy: How US Taxpayers BAnkroll the Taliban.” In story after story Wissing reveals a stunning pattern of massive corruption with American middle-men profiting handsomely while essentially no real aid gets to the people. Wissing, who has traveled extensively into Afghanistan, says it’s over, we lost. And maybe we can learn from this one?
